What you may notice
- Pain or stiffness that makes sitting, bending, walking or lifting difficult.
- Pain, tingling, numbness or weakness in the buttock, leg or foot can occur with sciatica. Back pain alone does not mean you have sciatica.
At an appointment
David will ask when the symptoms began, what changes them and whether you have any leg symptoms. With your consent, he may examine your movement and relevant areas. He will explain what he finds and whether osteopathic care or a referral is more appropriate.
What happens next
Advice may include ways to stay active and a suitable exercise plan. For adults with low back pain or sciatica, NICE recommends considering manual therapy only as part of a package that includes exercise. What is appropriate depends on the assessment.
When to seek medical help
Seek urgent medical help if you have new bladder or bowel control problems, numbness around your genitals or bottom, or severe or worsening weakness in both legs. These symptoms need medical assessment, not an online booking.
